Rollin Geppert
Here are some photos of me taken over the years. More importantly, the photos in my web site are small JPGs, however, the originals vary in size from 6 to 100MB depending on whether it was made using my Canon digital SLR or scanned as a TIFF file from a 35mm or 120 format (Pentax 67 or Hasselblad) color transparency or b&w negative. Remember, if you don't find what you are looking for, please ask me....it's a very large collection.
I have been a photographer since 1963 when I purchased my first camera to be used for capturing my experiences while working during the summer for the US Forest Service in beautiful Arizona. Having come from a farm in Minnesota where everything is strikingly different from the Southwest, I soon developed a keen appreciation for using photography to capture the wonders of nature.
I went on to college and majored in forestry and later in plant physiology and plant ecology. It was in graduate school that I studied darkroom procedures and the fundamentals of film-based photography. While living in Germany from 1969-1971, I was able to use a Leica M-3 range-finder camera with three lenses and have taken, on two occasions, participate in the photography short course offered by the Leica Company in Wetzlar. Other than this, all of my photography skills have come from many years of experience and tons of reading.
When I returned to the west coast in 1971, I began selling my photos to publishers and at one time had three stock photo agencies market my work world-wide. Now days, I do all of my own marketing and enjoy working with clients and galleries. In 2007 I made the jump from film-based photography to digital but continue to scan from my collection of 300,000 images, both 35mm and 120 b&w negatives and color transparencies, the best images into TIFF and JPG files. I now do all of my own printing using a Canon i9900 ink jet printer and I favor using Epson Ultra Premium photo paper.
